Concerning the recent pressures on the student and worker activists inside Iran in particular those active in the Shiraz University, and arrest of 11 of those students (of which 7 are imprisoned and others face atrocious charges including expulsion from their studies), it is important for us to stand in solidarity with them.

This is a very difficult time for the students of Shiraz University while it is no better for the rest of the society, where 10 people are awaiting stoning and 3 have been stoned in the last year alone.

Many worker activists such as Farzad Kamangar are awaiting execution for their actions and all these incidents have been completely overshadowed by what is happening in Gaza.

The current inhumane attacks of Israel on Gaza requires us to unite with the people of Gaza, there are no justifications for what they are going through.
Following the current protests and gatherings all over Europe in solidarity with Shiraz students (and all the students in other areas from Hamedan and Tabriz to Mazandaran and Isfahan), as well as worker and social activists inside Iran, we call for a demonstration at 12:30 on Saturday 17th, in Trafalgar square in London. After our demonstration we will be joining with the pro-Palestinian anti-war protest.

فراخوان تجمع در حمایت از دانشجویان دانشگاه شیراز در لندن

با توجه به تشدید فشار ها بر روی فعالین دانشجویی کارگری و فعالین مدنی در ایران که به صورت ویژه ای بر روی فعالین دانشجویی دانشگاه شیراز اعمال گردیده است و تا کنون بیش از 11 نفر از این دانشجویان بازداشت گردیده اند(هم اکنون هفت نفر از این دانشجویان در زندان می باشند) و احکام سنگینی مبنی بر محرومیت از تحصیل تعدادی دیگر از این دانشجویان صادر گردیده است، ضرورت دفاع از این دانشجوبان و حمایت از حقوق آنها بیش از پیش ضروری است.

شرایط سختی که دانشجویان دانشگاه شیراز تحمل می کنند در حالی است که در همین روز ها در ایران 10 ها نفر در معرض حکم سنگسار قرار دارند و 3 نفر سنگسار گردیده اند،تعدادی از فعالین کارگری بازداشت می باشند و کسانی چون فرزاد کمانگر در زیر حکم اعدام قرار دارند و تمامی این اتفاقات در سایه سو استفاده حکومت ایران از حمله اسرائیل به مردم غزه می باشد.

از طرفی حمله اسرائیل به غزه و شرایط سختی که مردم غزه در آن قرار گرفته اند دفاع از مردم غزه و فراتر از آن انسانیت وظیفه هر انسان شریفی است. هیچ بهانه ای شرایطی کنونی که اسرائیل به مردم غزه تحمیل نموده است، توجیح نمی نماید.

در ادامه اعتراضات و گردهمایی های برگزار شده در سراسر اروپا و با توجه به تمامی این شرایط تجمع حمایت از دانشجویان دانشگاه شیراز( و تمامی فعالین جنبش دانشجویی در ایران از همدان و تبریز تا مازندران و اصفهان) و دیگر فعالین کارگری و مدنی که در ایران زندانی هستند راس ساعت 12:30 ظهر در میدان ترافارگار در لندن برگذار خواهد گردید. پس از برگزاری تجمع با خواست توقف بی قید و شرط حمله اسرائیل با صفوف و شعار های مستقل به تظاهرات ضد جنگ خواهیم پیوست.

Day of action in solidarity with Iranian students

In the last week of December in Iran over 40 politically active students were called to the disciplinary committee of various different universities across Iran.

Most of these students were active on the student day (16 Azar) this year and while all these students and their families have been harassed already.

4 students were arrested on 3rd of January 2008 and there are now fears that the rest of these students will be expelled and even arrested.

What more there have also been arrests of trade union leaders and workers activists including Ebrahim Madadi (Bus and transport), Mohsen Hakimi, Bidjan Amiri (car industry).
This is not the first time Islamic Republic has taken these reactionary steps to break the student movement but also to make a lesson for others to join in. Other fear provoking actions have included at least 3 stonings in the last year.
